The Coordinating Ministry For Political, Legal And Security Affairs Team Identifies Cases Of Past Serious Human Rights Violations In DIY
YOGYAKARTA - The Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Kemenko Polhukam) team has begun to identify incidents of past gross human rights violations in the Special Region of Yogyakarta to be resolved through non-judicial channels.
"After identification, of course we will do what we can, but what form can we not convey at this time," said Deputy for Legal Coordination and Human Rights at the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Sugeng Purnomo, quoted by Antara from the official website of the Provincial Government, Saturday, November 18.
Sugeng and his team were given the mandate to restore victims of gross human rights violations in 12 past events in Indonesia based on Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 4 of 2023 concerning the Monitoring Team for the Implementation of Non-judicial Settlement Recommendations for Human Rights Violations.
The 12 incidents were 1965-1966 Incident, 1982's Mysterious Shooting Incident (1985, Talangsari Incident in Lampung 1989, Rumoh Geudong Incident and Sattis Post in Aceh 1989, 1997 '1998 Forced Disappearance Incident, and May 1998 Riot Incident.
Next Are Trisakti And Semanggi Incidents I'II 1998 '1999, The 1998 '1999 Shaman Murder Incident, The 1999 Aceh KKA Intersection Event, The 2001 2001'2002 Wasior Papua Incident, The 2003 Papuan Wamena Incident, And The 2003 Aceh Keupok Jambo Incident.
"We have moved for the Aceh and Lampung regions and we also ask for input in the Yogyakarta area from 12 gross human rights violations, whatever happens," he said.
As a first step, the team from the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs had an audience with the Governor of Yogyakarta Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X at the Kepatihan Office, Yogyakarta on Friday (17/11) to ask for the blessing and direction of efforts to resolve past gross human rights violations that occurred in the DIY area.

According to Sugeng, Sultan HB X emphasized that the human rights issue should be resolved thoroughly.
"The Governor (DIY) said that the most important thing is that every problem must be resolved, not to delay the problem. Later if it is postponed, new problems will arise. I think that is a very wise thing, and this will be something that we will carry out later, especially in the scope of Yogyakarta," said Sugeng.
Regarding recovery efforts for victims of gross human rights violations that occurred in DIY, DIY Regional Secretary Beny Suharsono said the DIY Provincial Government did not yet have any formulation.
"We just listened, so we don't have any events or steps yet. Just an audience, just the initial dialogue. We just explained what kind of conducive situation the people of Yogyakarta are in. Hope has also been conveyed, Ngarsa
