Prabowo Leave The Leadership Of ADMM And ADMM Plus To The Lao Defense Minister
JAKARTA - Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto handed over the leadership of the ASEAN Defense Ministers (ADMM) and ADMM Plus to the Lao Defense Minister General Chansamone Chainalath at the end of the 10th ADMM Plus event in Jakarta.
Prabowo handed over the wayang gunungan to Chanyalath as a symbol of the transfer of leadership relays from Indonesia to Laos.
"I believe under the leadership of Laos, ADMM can continue to grow. I also believe in the ability, wisdom, and leadership of the Lao Defense Minister to continue our common goals," Prabowo said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, November 16.
There are several homeworks that Laos needs to continue, including accelerating the formulation of the mutual trust mechanism (CBMs) which will be useful in overcoming various problems and challenges in the region.
"Let's continue our joint efforts to realize peace, prosperity, and security for the people and future generations," said Defense Minister Prabowoyang, leading ADMM to 17 and ADMM Plus 10th.
Prabowo emphasized that Indonesia still believes that unity and solidarity are a foothold to overcome various common challenges.
"The presence here shows important steps in defense cooperation in Southeast Asia," he said.
In the same event, the Minister of Defense of Laos said that he would continue the success achieved during Indonesia's leadership.
"On this occasion, I invite you officially to attend next year's meeting and I welcome all of you to the Democratic People's Republic of Laos and the Laos Year Vision in 2024," said Defense Minister Chanyalath.
The Laos Defense Minister will also chair the 18th Defense Minister (ADMM) meeting and the Defense Minister's meeting in ASEAN with the Defense Minister of the eight 11th ASEAN partner countries (ADMM Plus) in Laos in 2024.
The eight ASEAN partner countries that are members of ADMM Plus are the United States, China, India, Australia, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, and Russia.
In the 10th ADMM Plus led by the Indonesian Defense Minister, Defense Ministers throughout ASEAN, except Myanmar, together with the Defense Ministers of the eight ASEAN partner countries discussed the opportunities and challenges faced in the region and the world.
The Defense Ministers also discussed the adoption of a joint ADMM Plus statement that formulated the role of women, peace and security.

Defense Minister and representatives from partner countries who attended the 10th meeting of ADMM Plus, namely Australian Defense Industry Minister Pat Conroy, Chinese Joint Military Commission Deputy Chief of Staff Marshal Madya Jing Jianfeng, and Indian Defense Minister Shri Rajnath Singh.
South Korean Defense Minister Kim Seonho, Deputy Minister of Defense of New Zealand Richard Anthony Schmidt, Japanese Minister of Defense Affairs Miyazawa Hiroyuki, Deputy Defense Minister of Russia Colonel General/Lieutenant General Alexander Fomin.
Then, ASEAN Secretary General Kao Kim Hourn also attended the 10th ADMM Plus meeting in person.
