DPD Responds To Megawati's Concern About Indonesian Democracy
JAKARTA - The concern of the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Megawati Soekarnoputri, which was conveyed openly about the quality of Indonesia's democracy, was assessed by the Chairman of DPD AA LaNyalla Mahmud Mattalitti as an introspection of the weakness of the western-style democratic system implemented since the reform era in Indonesia.
Previously, Megawati said that due to the practice of power that had ignored the truth of hakiki and politics on a conscience, various legal manipulations occurred. Mega investigates what happened at the Constitutional Court following the Constitutional Court's Honorary Council's Decision which removed Anwar Usman from his position as Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court.
Like a tit for tat, said LaNyalla, Megawati's concern is the iceberg phenomenon of discrepancies in the character of the Indonesian nation with the system adopted from the west indiscriminately.
"Changing the state system is not the answer, because it is like a patient with the wrong drug. What happened was not recovering, but even poisoning," he said, Monday, November 13.
LaNyalla added, during reforms, we should make amendments to the Addendum Technique, by accommodating demands for reform, while ensuring that people's sovereignty is stronger, without replacing the state system.

Because the formulation of the state system is the thoughts of the founding fathers of the nation, which have been studied and agreed upon, that Indonesia as a super pluralistic and archipelagic country and a tradition of living together, has found its own system. Namely a system that is in accordance with Pancasila.
"The practice of irregularities that occurred in the New Order era is what we must completely eradicate. Such as the appointment of group envoys by the president, or regional envoys filled with regional officials. Also the dwarfed political parties, while the class of works is represented from three paths, ABRI, Bureaucratics and Work. This is a wrong practice, so that even though the President is mandated by the MPR, almost all of them are president," he explained.
DPD initiated, so that Indonesia was more sovereign, it was time to re-implement the state system formulated by the nation's founders, by perfecting it to avoid irregularities that occurred in the Old Order era and the New Order.
"Not then we throw it away and we completely replace it with the liberal system. As a result, the drug is wrong. Please check, from the beginning of 2014 to today, how is the quality of democracy directly. Improve or worsen. The cost of direct elections in the Pilkada to the presidential election continues to swell, benefit whom? So who can guarantee the accuracy of the presidential election from more than 800 thousand polling stations in Indonesia, apart from the KPU as the only commission-level institution authorized to determine who is the elected president of Indonesia, "explained LaNyalla.
LaNyalla also criticized pro-west figures and intellectuals who said that the direct presidential election process would improve from year to year. Some even stated that the 2034 presidential election will peak the best presidential election.
"For me, that's just talk, because the milestone breakdown from 2014 doesn't exist, it's no different from the prediction of the football score," he added.
