Liverpool Delays To The Last 16 Of The Europa League After Losing Toulouse
JAKARTA - Liverpool surprisingly lost in the Europa League match. In a duel at the de Toulouse Stadium, Friday, November 10 in the morning WIB, Liverpool were forced to give up 3-2 by Toulous so that their move to the last 16 was delayed.
The dramatic defeat because Liverpool had equalized the score when young defender Jarell Quansah broke into Toulose's goal in injury time or 90+7 minutes to be exact.
But referee Georgi Kabakov decided to review the goal through VAR. As a result, midfielder Alexis Mac Allister was judged to have committed a foul for handball before Quansah who replaced Virgil van Dijk scored.
Liverpool failed to equalize and finally had to admit Toulouse's superiority. The defeat did not change the position of the Reds perched at the top of the standings with nine points.
However, Liverpool are now only leading two points from Toulouse who managed to climb to second place after managed to avenge their 5-1 defeat in the first meeting at Anfield.
Liverpool alone only need one more win to advance to the round of 16. Moreover, Union St. Fricoise which dropped to third after being beaten by LASK 3-0 only had four points.
In the match against Toulouse, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp overhauled the squad by placing Cody Gakpo as the spearhead.
Winger Luis Diaz who was able to concentrate again after his father was released by the kidnappers just moments before the match helped support Gakpo with young Ben Doak.
The reshuffle was also carried out in the central and back sector with Quansah placed at the heart of defense. The academy player also fortifyed goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelekera who replaced Alisson Becker.
In that match, Liverpool really got resistance from Toulouse. Evidently, the hosts managed to take the lead when Aron Donnum scored in the 36th minute. The 1-0 score lasted until the end of the first half because no more goals were created.
Toulouse hit again and pressed Liverpool's defense when the second half started. Their efforts were not in vain because Thjis Dallinga managed to increase their lead in the 58th minute.
Liverpool managed to reduce the lag after midfielder Toulous Cristian Casseres scored an own goal. But The Pool conceded again.
Only three minutes later, the hosts equalized the score when Frank Mabri broke into Liverpool's goal with a close-range shot.
