Defending RB Leipzig Champion Eliminated In German Cup, Wolfsburg Qualifies
JAKARTA - Defending champions RB Leipzig were immediately eliminated in the early stages of the German Cup or DFB-Pokal. In the duel against a team of fellow German Bundesliga at the Volkswagen Arena Stadium, Wednesday, November 1 in the morning WIB, the host Wolfsburg won 1-0 over Leipzig and advanced to the third round.
Leipzig, who has won the German Cup twice in a row, failed to score a hat-trick. In the 200/2021 edition, the club, which just stood in 2009, actually reached the final.
But they failed to become champions after being forced to surrender by Borussia Dortmund. Leipzig won for the first time by beating Freiburg and then Eintracht Frankfurt.
In an effort to defend the title in the German Cup, Leipzig, who is currently ranked sixth in the Bundesliga, must recognize Wolfsburg's superiority.
In the domestic competition, Wolfsburg itself is in ninth position. Niko Kovac's side's performance in the competition has decreased due to four defeats from the last five matches. This put Wolfsburg stuck in the middle board.
The club has also not won a trophy in DFB-Pokal for a long time. They have always failed to get through the quarter-finals since they last won in 2015.
Appearing at home against defending champions, Wolfsburg is actually able to show their best performance. They immediately stepped on the gas and tried to pressure the opponent.
The result was not in vain. The hosts managed to break into the opponent's goal through Vaclav Cerny's quick goal. He welcomed Tiago Tomas' assist and then fired hard at Leipzig's goal in the 14th minute.

In the second half, the hosts continued to appear offensive so that Leipzig had difficulties. They failed to develop the game optimally and never found the rhythm of the game.
Moreover, Leipzig then lost a player, Yussuf Poulsen, who received a second yellow card and ended in a red card in the 56th minute.
Practically with 10 players, they couldn't keep up with the hosts' fine game. Until the end of the match, the score remained 1-0 for Wolfsburg.
