There Have Been 7 Monkeypox Cases In Jakarta, People Are Asked Not To Panic
JAKARTA - Head of the Surveillance, Epidemiology and Immunization Section of the DKI Jakarta Health Office, Ngabila Salama, asked the public not to panic over the emergence of a number of cases of monkeypox in Jakarta.
To date, there have been 7 cases of monkeypox in Jakarta. Ngabila reminded the public to conduct an early examination.
"People don't panic, but they need to be vigilant. Do some ways to prevent illness and prevent death. Avoid complications and deaths by early detection," Ngabila said in his statement, Monday, October 23.
Please note, the transmission of moyet smallpox occurs through droplets in the form of phlegm, sneezing, or flow that termination of the environment or hands, skin contact, wound contact, body fluids, and sexual contact.
Ngabila explained, people need to continue to maintain their own hygiene by diligently wearing masks and washing their hands with running water and soap, especially when they are sick and meet sick people.
Then, avoid physical contact with people who are sick with fever, have symptoms of redness, acne, wounds, rinsing water on their skin. Then, also avoid facial contact with the patient's face, mouth, skin, and daily items.
"Safe, clean, healthy sexual intercourse using condoms. Do not have sex if your partner is sick, let alone there are wounds in the pubic area or is experiencing other sexually transmitted infections," Ngabila added.
Then, if you find any symptoms of monkeypox such as fever, lenting water content or skin wounds, especially accompanied by typical monkeypox symptoms, namely a lump or enlargement of the lymph node in the armpits, neck, groin, or thigh folding, Ngabila suggested that you immediately come to the health facilities of all health centers and hospitals for laboratory examinations.
For information, the first case of monkeypox in Jakarta was detected in August 2022. A year of no addition, then one more case of monkeypox was confirmed as of October 13, 2023.
Furthermore, one case of monkeypox was detected again on October 19, 2023, and the addition of four other cases on October 21, 2023. The seven positive cases in DKI are all male aged 25-35 years.

In the findings of this case, the DKI Health Office conducted an active case finding on people who could potentially be infected or transmitted, especially in close contacts of detected cases.
There is a possibility that the person concerned is infected from other people in the country. Thus, it is possible that there are other cases of monkeypox in Indonesia that have not been detected.
