President Erdogan Criticizes UN DK For Failing To Result In Resolution To Gaza Crisis, Praises OKI's Actions
JAKARTA - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan criticized the failure of the United Nations Security Council (DK PBB) to produce a resolution around the crisis in the Gaza Strip, instead praising the move by the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
DK PBB is known to have held twice the vote on a draft resolution on the conflict in Gaza. In Monday's vote, Russia's resolution called for a ceasefire immediately, not long and thoroughly, and stopped attacks on civilians, ran aground because it was only supported by China, the United Arab Emirates, Gabon and Mozambique. Meanwhile, the United States, Britain, France and Japan refused. Albania, Brazil, Ecuador, Ghana, Malta, Switzerland and Ecuador chose abstain.
In Wednesday's vote, Brazil's resolution to calls for a humanitarian break to provide assistance to millions of people in Gaza, ran aground after receiving veto from the United States. Indeed, the draft resolution has received the support of the majority of UN DK members (Albania, Brazil, China, Ecuador, France, Gabon, Ghana, Japan, Malta, Mozambique, Switzerland and the UAE). Russia and Britain chose abstain
"The UN Security Council, which has lost all its functions, once again failed to fulfill its responsibilities. Our efforts to ensure peace have been thwarted by measures such as sending aircraft carriers to the region, stopping aid to the Palestinian people and mass punishing the Gaza people," President Erdogan wrote on Telegram., reported TASS October 19.
"West countries, which do not abandon their business needs in terms of human rights and freedom, are taking any steps other than adding fuel (conflict)," he said, criticizing media coverage of the "bias and face-to-face" conflict in Gaza.
On the other hand, President Erdogan thanked the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for holding an extraordinary meeting in Jeddah.
"The OIC directly shows the determination of the Islamic world in the face of increasing Israeli oppression, its solidarity with the Palestinian people and its support for the Palestinian cause. Since the first day of this crisis, which began on October 7 and risks spreading throughout the region, we have made great efforts to resolve it," said President Erdogan.
