Metro Police Chief Letters To KPK, Invites Investigate Suspects Of SYL Extortion

JAKARTA - Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Karyoto wrote to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) regarding a request for supervision in handling the alleged extortion case against former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo or SYL by the head of the anti-corruption agency. The letter was sent October 11.

"Investigators have sent a letter from the Metro Jaya Police Chief to the leadership of the Corruption Eradication Commission regarding the request for supervision of case handling," said Director of Special Criminal Investigation at the Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Ade Safri Simanjuntak, quoted on Saturday, October 14.

The request for supervision between Polda Metro Jaya and the KPK is a form of transparency in handling the alleged extortion case.

"One form of supervision like that, so it is involved in coordination and supervision, one of which is in the form of a joint case title, essentially the KPK and the Police are solid in eradicating corruption," said Ade.

So far, in investigating the alleged extortion, investigators from the Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation of the Polda Metro Jaya have been questioned by a team from the Directorate of Corruption Crimes at Bareskrim Polri.

In handling this case, Polda Metro Jaya has examined dozens of witnesses in the investigation stage. Two of them are SYL and the Semarang Police Chief Kombes Irwan Anwar.

Most recently, investigators examined Kevin Egananta who is an aide or aide-de-camp (ADC) of KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri, on Friday, October 13. However, Kevin will be questioned again on Wednesday, October 18.

In addition, investigators will also examine one KPK employee on Monday, October 16. He should have been questioned on Thursday, October 12. However, on the grounds that there is an official activity, he asked for a reschedule.
