Putin Affirms Russia's Support For Palestinian Independence
Russian President Vladimir Putin reiterated his country's support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state and the implementation of the United Nations resolution. This was conveyed by Putin in a speech at the plenary session of Russia Energy Week in Kharch, Thursday.
"Russia's position has not changed to this day. We always encourage the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions, taking into account mainly the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state," Putin said.
Putin added that the conflict in Palestine has been going on for a long time and is a manifestation of injustice that has reached an extraordinary level. He stressed that the Palestinian issue is the concern of everyone in the region.
"This is a terrible situation. We understand that the degree of bitterness is very high. However, we need to reduce the number of civilian casualties as much as possible, and this applies to both parties," Putin said.
He explained that initially there were talks about creating two countries, namely Israel and Palestine, but never materialized. Putin added that parts of the Palestinian territories were occupied by Israel.
"Without solving the basic political issue, namely an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, it is impossible to resolve this entire problem," he added.

Putin also blamed the United States for ignoring UN resolutions and continuing to support Israel.
"What is the problem now? Actually there is a resolution mechanism, but the United States has ignored it for years. They chose to manage everything themselves," Putin said.
