KKP Gets 2 Additional Supervisory Vessels To Monitor Fishery Business Activities In Indonesia
NTT - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) received two additional fisheries and marine control vessels to encourage compliance with fishery business actors in Indonesia. Both are named Orca 05 and Orca 06
"We got 2 units from the Japanese government, thus increasing the strength of the existing Directorate General of PSDKP, 30 ships have now become 32 marine and fisheries monitoring vessels," said Director General of Marine and Fishery Resources Supervision Rear Admiral TNI Adin Nurawaluddin at the Kupang Fishery Port, NTT, Thursday, October 12, confiscated by Antara.
Adin explained that the Orca 06 ship is the latest ship granted by the Japanese government on October 3, 2023, while the Orca 05 has been donated in July 2023.
The ship with a length of approximately 63 meters, he said, was the largest ship in the supervisory ship at the Directorate General of PSDKP and had good stability.
Along with the blue economy policy promoted by the KKP, PSDKP also carries out policy escorts in the context of compliance with business actors, especially in the capture fisheries sub-sector, strengthening fishing vessels, and monitoring in the marine sector.
The Director General hopes that the two newest ships can guard the border area and are ready to be placed from Lampulo in Aceh, along the west coast of Sumatra, then Cilacap to Kupang.
Adin Nurawaluddin said that the supervisory ships could escort business actors in the western coast of Sumatra, south of Java, south of Bali, south of NTB, and south of NTT, especially ships based in Lampulo, Sibolga, Bungus, Bengkulu, Cilacap, Prigi, Benoa, to Kupang.
"This ship is a grant from Japan, not used for military specifications, but to encourage the compliance of business actors," he said.

He continued that the Orca 05 ship had been operating since July 2023. His party directed the ship to carry out surveillance into the Aru Sea, entering NTT, to Kupang, Benoa, Cilacap, and Prigi.
During the supervision, Orca 05 ship personnel had checked 127 ships and detained three ships indicated to have committed violations, namely having a regional permit, but fishing as far above 12 miles.
The KKP already has 32 surveillance vessels which are divided into 10 vessels under the control of the Fleet Monitoring and Operations Directorate, then 22 ships under PSDKP control spread across 14 bases.
Monitoring operations, he continued, with one of the policies of the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, namely a quota-based measurable fishing program. Indonesia itself has 11 fisheries management areas (WPP) which are divided into six zones.
"The main focus is in accordance with the Minister's direction to zone three. These are WPP 718, 715, and 714. There we escort all fishing activities so that illegal fishing does not happen again, unregulated fishing, and unreported fishing," he said.
