This Old Toyota Land Cruiser Looks Like A New One At IMX 2023
JAKARTA - The Indonesia Modification and Lifestyle Expo (IMX) 2023 exhibition is an event for vehicle modification artists to showcase their best work at JCC Senayan, Jakarta, from September 29 to October 1, 2023.
Various cars with impressive designs are displayed by local and international modifiers, with the aim of introducing a modified world to visitors. In addition to showing the modified car, the exhibition also features an old car that has been restored back to its original state.
One example that stole the show was the 1961 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 which was also exhibited at this event. Even though he is old enough, this car is presented as if he had just left the factory.
This car, known as the "Kuda Lumping" in Indonesia, has undergone a restoration process by Bengkel Audi, a Toyota Land Cruiser restoration specialist located in Semarang.
"This restoration work was carried out at the Audi Workshop, Semarang. Initially, this car belonged to a customer," said Kenny, owner of the Audi Workshop, in an interview with VOI on Saturday, September 30.
Kenny explained that the second-generation Land Cruiser was initially in a very worrying condition. In fact, some of the original components of the vehicle have disappeared or are no longer there.
"When we got it, this car was in a very damaged condition and the components were scattered. Some parts such as the lights and the seat were gone. In fact, the glass had also broken," explained Kenny.
The man from Semarang continued by telling that this iconic restoration process took a full year. During that period, this car experienced body updates, component replacement, and the search for genuine parts that were difficult to find.
"The restoration process took about a year. We did a thorough restoration, starting from dismantling the chassis and body of the car. Because the age of the car was quite old, the first step was to do the painting. We looked for the missing or damaged parts carefully, and fortunately we managed to find them," said Kenny.

Most of the car components that are already in disarray are replaced with new ones. However, some of the original parts of this car are maintained, including the engine and rim.
Although this project is one of the largest ever faced by Bengkel Audi and has successfully displayed it in the exhibition, Kenny expressed his readiness to sell the car if there was a reasonable offer.
"We are open to selling it if anyone is interested in the appropriate price," said Kenny.
In its heyday, the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 was powered by a 3.9-liter engine capable of producing up to 125-horsepower with three accelerations of transmission.
