Minister Of Communication And Information Budi: Instead Of Online Gambling, It's Better To Sell Online
JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi asked the public to stay away from online gambling and use technology more for legal activities, one of which is selling online.
"I am very happy with digital MSME players, most of whom are young people, I see young faces full of hope. That's why I'm happy, instead of playing online gambling, it's better to sell online," Budi Arie said in a press release, Friday, September 22, which was confiscated by Antara.
He conveyed this to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) who were present at the Discussion of the Indonesian Joint Funding Fintech Association (AFPI) for MSME Digital Summit 2023 in South Jakarta, Thursday, September 21.
According to Budi, online gambling is as dangerous as online loans in bringing people down. He even called it like a sibling.
"From our temporary monitoring, this illegal loan is the younger brother of online gambling. So after playing online gambling, he lost money, he borrowed money. Getting borrowed money, playing gambling again, losing again. So digging holes, digging holes again," he said.

The government has also taken firm steps to address this illegal activity by cutting off access. However, this action requires support from various parties.
The Ministry of Communication and Information is currently discussing with the Financial Services Authority to close illegal loans.
"We have to anticipate because this is really like moneylenders and loan sharks strangling people," said Budi Arie.
Regarding MSME activities, Budi said the government had also launched a national digital transformation program.
Program tersebut ditujukan untuk meningkatkan produktivitas masyarakat melalui pemanfaatan ekosistem teknologi yang terus berkembang.
"Because this message or key sentence of digital transformation is how to make people more productive, that's the point. So that this digital space becomes healthier and contributes to Indonesia's progress," he concluded.
