National Police Chief: U-17 World Cup Security Will Not Disturb The 2024 Election Stages

JAKARTA - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo ensured that there were no obstacles to securing the U-17 World Cup in November 2023, although at the same time his party was securing the implementation of the 2024 General Election stage.

"Regarding the slice with election activities, we have seen earlier that the schedule for the series of elections in November 2023 may be included in campaign activities but it is still a closed campaign," said Sigit as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, September 19.

With the closed campaign stage, said Sigit, the National Police can optimally oversee the U-17 World Cup security process.

"Besides us, we will continue to oversee and maintain the ongoing stages of the election," he said.

The National Police Chief emphasized that his party had calculated the strength of the personnel to secure the two important agendas.

"I think we have calculated this and we are ready to secure both activities," said Sigit.

Previously, the National Police Chief met with PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir to discuss the readiness to secure the U-17 World Cup.

Indonesia is the only debutant with the blessing of its status as the host of a total of 24 participating countries.

The Garuda Muda squad is in Group A with Ecuador, Panama, and Morocco.

The final and third-placed World Cup U-17 semifinals/finals are held at Manahan Stadium, Solo, Central Java. The semifinals were played on Tuesday (28/11). The race for the top three positions was held on Friday (9/12). A day later, the top match was held.

Meanwhile, the Jakarta International Stadium is the "homebase" of countries that are members of the Group C (Brazil, UK, Iran, New Caledonia) and E (France, South Korea, United States, Burkina Faso) competition.

Si Jalak Harupat Soreang Stadium, Bandung, West Java, became the "host" of the Group D (Japan, Argentina, Senegal, Poland) and Group F (Mexico, Germany, New Zealand, Venezuela).

The U-17 World Cup preliminary round is divided into six groups with each group inhabited by four representative teams each pot. In the group stage, six teams won the group, six "runner-ups", and four of the best third-placed teams were entitled to advance to the round of 16.
