Wanting Improved Treatment, Megawati: Work At The Museum Needs Passion

JAKARTA - The fifth President of the Republic of Indonesia, Megawati Soekarnoputri, wants museum maintenance to be increased after last weekend's fire.

This was conveyed by Megawati when she visited the location of the fire at the National Museum or Elephant Museum. While traveling around the rooms affected by the fire, the Chairperson of the Steering Committee of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) touched on the need for knowledge of creation so that there is the production of knowledge of every object in the museum.

"People who work in museums must have empathy and passion. Because working in the museum is silent work," said Megawati at the National Museum, Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, September 19.

Megawati emphasized that historical objects affected by the fire on Saturday, September 16 at the National Museum must be rescued.

"The fire remains to be collected," said Megawati.

Megawati also hopes that this fire accident should be a momentum for the improvement of the museum. He also encouraged cooperation between BRIN and the National Museum in order to develop research and research in the field of museums.

During her visit to the National Museum, Megawati was accompanied by PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto. Minister of Education and Culture Nadiem Makariem and Head of the Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Laksana Tri Handoko, Deputy Head of BRIN Vice Admiral Amarulla Octavian, and Historian total Triyana who welcomed Megawati.

On that occasion, Megawati also advised the Ministry of Education and Culture to immediately cooperate with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) to secure collectible objects that could still be saved from fire.

"Friends from archeology, especially historical archaeological research organizations will soon be involved. Later we will hold a meeting soon. This Friday we will start, close down, whatever the agenda is, we will definitely update it," he explained.
