Papuan Police Chief Hopes the Security Situation in Dekai Will Recover Soon

JAKARTA - Papua Police Chief Inspector General Mathius Fakhiri hopes that the new Yahukimo Police Chief Assistant Commissioner of Police (AKBP) Heru Hidayanto can immediately adapt and restore security in the Dekai District area so that the security situation becomes conducive again.

"Hopefully the security situation in Yahukimo Regency can return to being conducive so that people can carry out normal activities without being overwhelmed by fear," said Papua Police Chief Inspector General Pol Fakhiri in Jayapura, Saturday, quoted by Antara.

The Papua Police Chief conveyed this in connection with reports that a number of residents who lived on the outskirts of the city were now fleeing and taking refuge in Dekai.

"It is true that there are reports regarding residents fleeing to protect themselves due to security disturbances in Dekai, the capital of Yahukimo Regency," he said.

He said that the residents who reportedly arrested 40 heads of families (kk) lived outside Dekai City.

Fakhiri said that from reports received, currently they are still being accommodated in shelters at the SMKN 1 complex, Pasema Social Complex KM 2, Social Housing KM 4 and the Silimo Kali Merah complex.

Residents secured themselves in the four locations because their homes were outside the city.

Security disturbances in the Dekai area are currently increasing, not only with persecution causing injuries and deaths to residents, but also with shootings carried out by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) and its sympathizers.
