The police arrested a man with a mental disorder (ODGJ) named Handri Kaunang (65) after he went berserk on the streets with a machete in Paal IV Neighborhood II Village, Tikala District, Manado City, Wednesday, August 30.

This incident resulted in a police officer with the rank of aiptu suffering serious injuries to his head due to a stab from the perpetrator when the arrest attempt was made.

Head of Public Relations of the Manado Police, Ipda Agus Haryono, explained that the perpetrator initially intended to make a report. However, the report was not responded to by the Tikala District office employee, Manado City.

"Because there was no response, the suspect was angry and finally chased the sub-district office employee using a machete," said Agus.

Not long after, patrols from the Tikala Sector Police arrived at the location after receiving reports from residents. One of the police personnel, Aiptu Malino, tried to approach the suspect to secure him.

"However, this police effort met resistance from the suspect, and there was a physical complaint and the incident," he explained.

During the arrest process, Aiptu Malino fell onto the asphalt road, and the perpetrator immediately swung a machete at the victim's head twice.

"The victim suffered stab wounds to the front of his head and right arm," explained Agus.

Furthermore, Agus added that the victim was then rushed to the medical center for medical treatment before being referred to Bhayangkara Hospital.

"It was revealed that the suspect had a mental disorder, and this has been confirmed through a diagnosis," he added.

Data from RSJ Ratumbuysang also noted that the victim had undergone treatment there in 2020.

"Currently, the suspect has been quarantined at the Ratumbuysang Hospital, and an official letter will be issued by the Ratumbuysang Hospital," Agus concluded.
