Yogyakarta Youth Successfully Builds 3-wheeler Retro Custom Vehicle
YOGYAKARTA - Three-wheeled or 3-wheeler vehicles were vehicles that had boomed in England in the 1930s. However, these young people managed to build a three-wheeled retro 3-wheeler custom vehicle made by Lulut Wahyudi from Retro Classic Cycles Yogyakarta.
For this success, the Chairman of the MPR RI as well as the General Chair of the Indonesian Motor Association (IMI) Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet) appreciated their achievements.
"Many children of the nation have high creativity in terms of modification and custom of two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles in Indonesia. Creativity in the vehicle modification sector must be supported by stakeholders, especially the government, with appropriate regulations so that it can increase economic impact," said Bamsoet during the inauguration of the IMI Management. Special Region of Yogyakarta in the Royal Ambarukmo Hall area of Yogyakarta, Sunday, August 27.
The Central IMI management, among others, General Treasurer Iwan Budi Buana, Director of Organizations and Institutions Nasrul Fuad, Inter-Institutional Relations Agus Hadsoe, and Communication and Media Dwi Nugroho.
Also present were the Chairperson of the IMI of the Special Region of Yogyakarta KPH Purbodiningrat, the Chairman of the Special Region KONI of Yogyakarta Joko Pekik Irianto and the Director of Traffic of the Yogyakarta Special Region Police, Kombes Pol Alfian Nurrizal.
Bamsoet explained that Lulut Wahyudi's Retro 3wheeler uses a full-indepent suspension in three wheels, a long-sleeved and disc-brake inboard brake model such as an old Ferrari car. The machine adopts an S&S Evolution machine (performance Vtwin engine from America) with a capacity of 1340cc. Meanwhile, the gearbox 4 speed front wheel drives made by Retro Classic Cyclels in collaboration with one of the rally workshops in UK.
"Inspired by the construction of a light and strong aircraft chassis, a chassis chassis'space chassis' was created for a Retro 3wheeler. Where the ladder chassis is 'united' with a full aluminum body with ripplet nail technology such as airplane body. The maximum speed that can be achieved is a Retro 3wheeler of 130km/h. Meanwhile, the distance reaches 530 km for full gasoline filling," said Bamsoet.

Bamsoet explained, IMI continues to encourage the Ministry of Transportation to finalize the Draft Regulation of the Minister of Transportation on Motor Vehicle Customization. Thus, the modifiers have a clear reference in modifying vehicles so that they can be legally used on the highway. The absence of legality of custom vehicles in Indonesia also has an impact on the players of the custom industry in Indonesia.
"IMI proposes that the legalization of custom vehicles or conversion vehicles fueled by oil to electric motors, no longer based on engine numbers, but based on a chassis number. The solution using a chassis number is very appropriate as a way out for the legality of conversion vehicles. Considering that currently, even though it already has a legal basis in the form of the Regulation of the Minister of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia No. 65 of 2020 and the Regulation of the Minister of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia No. 15 of 2022, however, the legality of the conversion vehicles still collides with the provisions of the existence of engine numbers at STNK and BPKB," concluded Bamsoet.
