Good Game Well Played: Esports As A Commodity Of The Tourism And Creative Economy Sector In Indonesia
JAKARTA - In recent years, the esports industry in Indonesia has experienced rapid development. In fact, Indonesia is now becoming the largest game market in the world with the number of players reaching half of its total population.
This development cannot be separated from the big role of the media in introducing the industry massively. In recent years, content about esports can be easily accessed on the internet and on social media.
These contents display game matches that are not only played for entertainment. But it is also transformed into part of sports that uphold sportsmanship and teamwork.
"Esports not only supports industrial growth, but its existence also has an attraction to attract tourists. Events related to esports held in Indonesia are an attraction for tourists to come and participate in watching or participating in events related to esports," said Head of GGWP, Brian Chuang Yudiputra, in his statement, Tuesday, August 22.
The positive and productive gaming culture is also supported by various parties, including the esports community. They compete to hold major tournaments and professional leagues offline and online. Then broadcast on popular streaming platforms such as Twitch, YouTube and other social media.
On the other hand, the government also supports by establishing esports as one of the sports in 2020. Until then competed in the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON) 2021.
This support is very important to support the esports industry in Indonesia. One of the facilities needed is a forum that brings together stakeholders sharing insights related to esports.
GGWP, as a tournament portal, esports news, and guide esports for all esports connoisseurs who are part of IDN Media, meets this need by collaborating with BEKRAF and the Indonesian Game Association (AGI) to host the annual Game Prime Asia event.
This event is a conference, seminar, and business exhibition to the game (B2B) in Indonesia which was first held in 2016. In 2019, the Game Prime Asia event brought in a total of 25,000 visitors, showing the significance of esports enthusiasts in Indonesia.
