JATENG - Jepara Police revealed a fake social gathering that claimed victims of 80 people with a loss value of Rp. 1.2 billion.
Jepara Police Chief AKBP Wahyu Nugroho Setyawan said that with the disclosure of this case, the public was advised to be careful with online social gatherings that offered a fairly large profit.
"If someone offers unreasonable profits, it's better to be careful, because it could be just a mode of fraud," he said during a press conference at the Jepara Police Headquarters, Friday, August 11, which was confiscated by Antara.
This fictitious social gathering case took place from 2021 to 2023. The Palakunya of a young woman with the initials IN (28) was arrested on Monday 7 August.
Based on the results of the examination, he said, the fake social gathering managed by the suspect IN was carried out by simply uploading status and stories on Whatsapp (WA).
To attract the interest of the victim, the perpetrators provide the lure of profit for those who are willing to purchase an arisan auction to him through WA status and many are tempted to offer big profits.
Over time, the profit promised by the perpetrators turned out to be unable to fulfill it, so the victim reported the case.

In addition to arresting the perpetrators, the police also confiscated a number of evidences in the form of account books and other documents.
For his actions, the suspect was charged with Article 378 of the Criminal Code with a maximum sentence of four years and/or Article 372 of the Criminal Code with a threat of four years in prison.
Meanwhile, the suspect IN admitted that he made a mistake and apologized to all his victims.
Of the total funds collected amounting to Rp1.2 billion, said the perpetrator, it has been used up for down payment for car purchases, roads and used for other personal needs.
