Case Of Extortion Of Hotel Guests In Tangerang, 3 Of The 10 Perpetrators Are Journalists

TANGERANG - Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Tangerang Metro Police, Kompol Rio Mikael Tobing, revealed 3 of the 10 suspects in the case of extorting hotel guests in Tangerang City, claiming to work as journalists.

"The perpetrator did admit to being a journalist," Rio told reporters at the Tangerang City Metro Police, Wednesday, August 9.

To ensure this truth, the police will contact the editor-in-chief of the media, which is recognized by the three perpetrators.

"Currently we are still identifying the editor-in-chief whether it is true that the journalist registered in the media," he said

Rio explained that the modus operandi of the extortionists was to search for victims randomly at a hotel in Tangerang City.

The perpetrator then followed the potential victim by threatening to distribute photos to the victim's family and submit them to the media.

The method is to wait for guests who come out of one of the hotels, then follow the prospective victims who are randomly selected. Then the perpetrators started to act by scaring the victim. (The way) to spread photos to the victim's family, report to the police and will be published in the media, "said Rio.

From the results of the examination, it seems that the perpetrators have acted 5 times in different locations. The total money obtained from extortion amounted to Rp40.9 million.

"A total of 4 crime scenes that had previously been collected were Rp. 40.9 million," said Rio.
