Dead Dolphin Dolphins In The Savu Sea TNP, KKP Burys At The Kupang BKKPN Office To Make It Easier If Researched
NTT - Marine mammals stranded in the Savu Sea Waters National Park (TNP) in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province.
The Ministry of Maritime Affairs of Fisheries (KKP) through the Kupang National Water Area Conservation Center (BKKPN) intervened to follow up on the findings with the burial process at the location making it easier if it was used as research.
"The team buried the dolphin carcass in the yard of the BKKPN Kupang office. This burial site aims to facilitate the excavation of the marine mammal skeleton to be reconstructed and became an educational medium related to marine mammals," said Head of BKKPN Kupang Imam Fauzi in his official statement, Thursday, June 15, confiscated by Antara. The two mammals are short-fin pilot whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus) and spinning dolphins (Stenella longirostris). As for the short-fin pilot whale carcass, there are two puncture marks near the mouth suspected to be caused by the spear, as well as the fin and tail conditions are gone.

Director of Conservation and Diversity of the Sea KKP Firdaus Agung K. Kurniawan added that marine mammals are often stranded in the Savu Sea TNP area. He also hopes that the determination of conservation areas in these locations can increase efforts to protect and preserve the habitat of marine mammals.
The KKP also assigned personnel to carry out handling according to applicable procedures. In addition to handling stranded marine mammals, the Kupang BKKPN also conducts socialization to the public about the type of marine biota protected in Indonesia. This is done considering that there are still many people who do not know that whales are one type of protected marine biota. This, he added, can be seen from several parts of whales that have been cut by local residents. In line with the policy of the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, in the management of areas and types of fish, KKP synergizes with the community and stakeholders in particular in providing a quick and appropriate response to handling stranded marine mammals.
