4 TIP Perpetrators Arrested In Bogor, Mode Of Advertising On Social Media

BOGOR - Bogor Resort Police, West Java revealed a case of alleged criminal acts of trafficking in persons (TPPO) who illegally sent a number of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) to Malaysia.

"Disclosure of TIP allegations from the beginning of information conveyed by the public about the existence of illegal migrant workers shelters in Rancabungur," said Bogor Police Chief AKBP Iman Imanuddin as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, June 14.

The police have named four TIP suspects with the initials LS (49), AK (37), RA (32), and S (63). Then, there are still six other people who are set on the wanted list (DPO).

Iman explained that the suspects recruited a number of PMIs through advertisements on social media by offering jobs in the form of household assistants to cleaning services in Malaysia.

"Then they (PMI) were dispatched without documents as stipulated in the applicable laws and regulations," explained Iman.

He admitted that he was still investigating the alleged TIP, which was the result of the development of a similar case in the Parungpanjang area some time ago.

The four TIP suspects are subject to Article 10 in conjunction with Article 44 of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 21 of 2007 concerning the Eradication of TIP and or Article 81 in conjunction with Article 69 and or Article 83 in conjunction with Article 68 of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 18 of 2017 concerning the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers.

"The criminal threat against them is a minimum of three years in prison and a maximum of 15 years in prison with a fine of Rp. 120 million to Rp. 600 million," said Iman.

Meanwhile, Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Bogor Police, AKP Yohanes Redhoi Sigiro, explained that from the disclosure of the alleged TIP in Rancabungur and Parungpanjang, his party identified 61 victims.

"Those who have been successfully discharged alias did not leave, there are 22 people. Meanwhile, 39 are strongly suspected to be still abroad, we are coordinating with related parties to be sent home," explained Sigiro.

The victims were lured with an income of Rp. 5 million to Rp. 10 million and promised to become legal migrant workers.

However, he said, some victims were asked for money with various amounts ranging from Rp. 5 million to Rp. 21 million to be distributed as migrant workers.

"(The victim) is a resident around West Java, some are Bogor, Cianjur, and those around him," he explained.
