East Java Provincial Government Anticipates Disasters In The Dry Season
SURABAYA - The East Java Provincial Government (Pemprov Jatim) anticipates drought that has the potential to hit a number of areas as it enters the dry season.
"Last week we conducted an apple for controlling forest and land fires or forest and land fires at Kalianda Resort, Pasuruan. But what we must also be aware of next is the potential for drought," said East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa in Surabaya as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, June 13.
The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has announced that the 2023 dry season in East Java will occur from May to September 2023. The peak of the dry season in East Java is predicted to occur from the end of July to August 2023.
BNPB also said that a number of areas in East Java had a fairly high drought hazard rate. Drought in East Java in 2023 has the potential to occur in 27 districts/cities, consisting of 1,617 hamlets, 844 villages/kelurahan and 221 sub-districts.
The estimated population affected by drought in East Java in 2023 was 1,6664,433 people or 655,277 families, who live in 844 villages/kelurahan.
The drought rate in the village/kelurahan is divided into 500 critical dry, 253 rare dry and 91 limited rare dry.
The governor ensured that a joint team from BNPB, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the synergy of district/city governments, and the volunteer community had been synergized to maximize efforts to prevent and overcome drought.
"Seeing the decline in forest and land fire cases, we are optimistic that drought in East Java can be handled properly. Of course, with a combination of BNBP, BPDB, local governments and volunteers," he said.
The East Java BPBD, continued Khofifah, has so far supplied clean water to several affected villages in East Java.
