Not Participating In The Koran Reading Test, 590 Aceh DPR Candidates Are Confirmed By KIP To Have Died From Nomination

BANDA ACEH - The Independent Election Commission (KIP) of Aceh Province confirmed that as many as 590 candidates for legislative members (bacapleg) for the 2024 Aceh People's Representative Council (DPRA) election died from nominations because they did not meet the requirements.

"The 590 candidates for DPRA members will certainly be eliminated from their candidacy because they did not take part in the Al-Qur'an reading test," said Aceh Provincial KIP Chairman Syamsul Bahri in Banda Aceh as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, June 13.

Syamsul Bahri emphasized that the reading of the Qur'an is a requirement that must be followed by Islamic legislators. Otherwise, the legislative reading does not meet the requirements and cannot be determined as a legislative candidate in the 2024 election.

KIP Aceh Province, has carried out a Qur'an reading test on all prospective members of the DPRA on June 6 to 12, 2024. The Qur'an reading test is centered at the Banda Aceh Hajj Dormitory. Each baulaleg is tested by three competent examiners.

"We have given the legislators time to take part in the Qur'an reading test, including a 2-day follow-up time for those who are unable to stay on their schedule. However, they also did not participate in the Qur'an reading test without clear reasons," said Syamsul Bahri.

The number of candidates for DPRA members registered by political parties participating in the 2024 Election is 1,781 people. Of these, five of them are non-Muslim so they are not required to take part in the Qur'an reading test.

"Of these, 1,776 people are required to take part in the Qur'an trial. However, in its implementation, only 1,1186 participated in the Qur'an reading test, while 590 baulaleg did not participate without any clear information," he said.

Syamsul Bahri said political parties are allowed to replace their legislative readings because they do not take part in the Qur'an reading test. Substitute legs are also required to take part in the Qur'an reading test later.

"The replacement of the legislative reading during the later repair period. Bacaleg who did not participate in the Qur'an reading test is no longer allowed to be registered during the repair period," said Syamsul Bahri.

The 2024 election consists of the Election of Members of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional Representative Council (DPD) as well as the election for provincial and district/city DPR members.

Elections for legislative members in Aceh, apart from being followed by national political parties, there are also six local political parties, namely the Aceh Nanggroe Party (PNA), the Atjeh Beusaboh Tha'at Atjeh Party (Gabthat), the Darul Aceh Party (PDA), the Aceh Party (PA), the Aceh Prosperous Justice Party (PAS), and the Aceh People's Independent Solidarity Party (SIRA).
