East Flores Police Failed To Arrest The Hands Of The Extortion Perpetrators At Deri Port, NTT, Whose Information From The Ombudsman

East Flores Resort Police (Polres) is investigating the practice of extortion against logistics truck drivers at Ferry Deri Port, Adonara Island.

Deputy Head of the East Flores Police, Kompol I Ketut Saba, said the investigation was carried out by the local Illegal Sweeping Task Force (Saber Pungli) he chaired.

"The Saber Extortion Team carried out a surprise inspection of the monitoring and investigation of the alleged extortion at Ferry Deri Port and it was discovered that there was such a practice, so it was immediately handled," he said, Friday, June 2, which was confiscated by Antara.

Saba said that the sudden inspection (sidak) activity was carried out after reports of truck drivers transporting logistics or expedition trucks being collected in certain amounts by unscrupulous workers at the local port.

He said his party received information on the alleged extortion from the Indonesian Ombudsman Representative of NTT Province.

"We plan to carry out a hand arrest operation, but during the inspection there are no expedition trucks operating," he said.

Therefore, he said, the handling effort was continued by educating the labor coordinator at Ferry Deri Port who confirmed that there was a levy of Rp. 100,000 by members of the workers to the logistics truck driver.

The workers, he continued, admitted to collecting fees because they knew that the logistics truck driver received cargo in the port area.

Saba said the issue had been resolved through the agreement of the parties who agreed that logistics trucks were prohibited from receiving cargo in the port area and workers were also prohibited from collecting transport services on trucks.

"We also give strict warnings not to commit extortion because strict action will be taken in accordance with applicable law," he said.
