Indonesia-South Korea Will Make Electric Cars For Batik Solo Motives

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Embassy in Seoul, South Korea, stated that Indonesia and South Korea plan to build electric cars with batik motifs, along with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

"Not only about electric cars, but batik is also important because it includes UNESCO cultural heritage and needs to be promoted," said Deputy Head of Indonesian Embassy Representatives at Seoul Zelda Wulan Kartika as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, May 30.

An electric car with a Solo batik motif, according to Zelda, is a collaboration between Indonesia and an automotive company from South Korea. The car will be launched in the middle of this year at an automotive event in Indonesia.

Apart from the Solo batik motifs that will be used in the cooperation, there is not much information yet known about the electric car.

The presence of electric cars that mark not only 50 years of bilateral relations between Indonesia and Korea, but also in line with the government's program to encourage the use of electric cars towards an energy transition.

Relations between Indonesia and South Korea have been established since 1973. In the context of the celebration, the Indonesian Embassy in Seoul held a series of events since the beginning of 2023, including business forums with strategic themes such as cooperation in the financial sector, electric vehicles, health and investment for renewable energy.

In April, the Indonesian Embassy held an annual event for the Indonesian Festival in Busan, in collaboration with Busan University of Foreign Studies. In the near future, the Indonesian Embassy is also planning to hold an event about Indonesia in Ansan City.

In addition to the 50th anniversary of bilateral relations, the Indonesian Embassy is also promoting the development of the Indonesia Center, a place to study Indonesian culture, in various cities in South Korea. The Indonesian Embassy last year built an Indonesia Center built at the Busan University of Foreign Studies.
