12 Unggas Without Documents Confiscated By Jayapura Quarantine Officers
SENTANI - Jayapura City Agricultural Quarantine Officer, Papua together with Lantamal X Jayapura Intelligence thwarted the smuggling of poultry at the seaport of this area.
Jayapura Agricultural Quarantine Head Muhlis Natsir said his party thwarted the smuggling of 12 poultry species without documents entering Jayapura City.
"This is a synergy and form of follow-up as well as ongoing efforts from the Jayapura Agricultural Intelligence and Quarantine cooperation with Lantamal X Jayapura," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, May 23.
He explained that the poultry were two chickens, seven birds of love birds and three walnuts, which were secured from KM Gunung Dempo under surveillance and joint raids at the Jayapura sea port.
"To secure Papua Province from bird flu disease (avian influenza), we will continue to take firm action against any illegal activities that have the potential to spread disease," he said.
Acting Quarantine for the Sea Port Working Area, Alit Demiyati, explained that the confiscated results had been secured for physical examination and laboratory tests.
"We do this to ensure the health of the carrier media and further deepen the violation of the Quarantine Law Number 21 of 2019," he said.

He added that security will continue to be tightened in order to prevent the escape of carrier media without documents that have the potential to carry quarantine animal disease pests or quarantine plant disruption organisms by sea.
"Karantina akan terus bersinergi dengan seluruh komunitas maritim di port laut Jayapura untuk memperkuat dan memper sharpen pengawasan media pembawa masuk ke Papua," ujarnya.
