U-20 World Cup: Italy Bungkam Brasil, Japan Makes An Earthquake
JAKARTA - The Italian team won the U-20 World Cup against Brazil in the Group C preliminary match, Monday, May 22, WIB. Meanwhile, Japan made a breakthrough in Group D by beating Senegal 1-0.
The Italian national team beat Brazil with a score of 3-2 when the two teams appeared at the Malvinas Argentinas Stadium, Mendoza.
This result temporarily made Italy the top of Group D of the 2023 U-20 World Cup with a collection of three points. Meanwhile, Brazil is in third place.
Italy scored first in the 11th minute thanks to Matteo Prati's kick. Italy doubled their lead in the 32nd minute, this time Cesare Casadi's header could not be stopped by the Mycael goalkeeper. The score becomes 2-0.
Brazil conceded again in the 35th minute through Casadei's penalty after he was dropped in the box. Italy won 3-0.
The Samba team was able to reduce their gap in the 72nd minute. Marcos Leonardo successfully broke into the Italian goal with his left foot from close range after receiving a pass from Marquinhos. The score becomes 3-1.
In the 87th minute, Brazil was finally able to score their second goal. Savio's cross was headed by Leonardo into the Italian goal which was escorted by Sebastiano Desplanches. The match ended with Italy's 3-2 win over Brazil.
Meanwhile in another Group D match, Nigeria was able to beat the Dominican Republic 2-1.
Edison Azcona's penalty goal put the Dominican Republic ahead in the 23rd minute before Nigeria turned things around and won through an own goal by Ronaldo de Pena in the 31st minute and Samson Adeniran Lawal's shot after taking advantage of the BACK player of the Dominican Republic's mistakes.
Italy and Nigeria are temporarily ranked first and second with three points, while Brazil occupies the third place and is followed by the Dominican Republic, as reported by Antara.

Meanwhile, Colombia started their inaugural match in Group C with a win over Israel with a score of 2-1. The match was held at the Estadio Ciudad de La Plata, Buenos Aires.
Israel opened the scoring through Dor David Turgeman's penalty kick in the 57th minute. The penalty was given after Kevin Mantilla fouled Roy Revivo in the box.
Turgeman managed to outwit goalkeeper Luis Marquinez by kicking the ball into the right of the net. The score became 1-0.
This time Colombia was awarded a penalty after a rebound from Oscar Cortes hit the Israeli player's hand. Cortes did his job well and made the position 1-1.
Colombia scored their winning goal in the 90th minute through Gustavo Puerta's left-footed shot after passing the Israeli player. The score is 2-1.
While Japan narrowly won 1-0 over Senegal. Japan's winning goal was scored by Kuryu Mathi through a hard kick from outside the penalty box in the 15th minute.
This result made Colombia occupy the first position in Group C standings, followed by Japan. Meanwhile, Israel and Senegal sit in the third and fourth places.
