PLN's Number Of Customers Adds 3 Million In A Year
JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) recorded an increase in the number of customers in 2022.
The number of PLN consumers increased by more than 3 million subscribers a year, from 82.54 million subscribers in 2021 to 85.63 million subscribers in 2022.
"This increase in electricity sales cannot be separated from PLN's success in digitizing customer services which makes it easier for people to get access to electricity, even reaching the leading, remote and disadvantaged areas (3T)," said PLN President Director, Darmawan Prasodjo, quoted Thursday, May 4.
This increase in the number of customers is also reflected in the increase in electricity sales by 6.3 percent from 257.6 Terrawat hour (TWh) in 2021, to 273.8 TWh in 2022. So that electricity sales revenues grew by 7.7 percent from Rp288.9 trillion in 2021 to Rp311.1 trillion in 2022.
Darmawan added, PLN presents innovation through the electrifying agriculture, electrifying marine, and the provision of Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU).
This extensification program has not only succeeded in changing the lifestyle from conventional to modern electricity-based which is much more efficient and environmentally friendly, but also contributed to the company's electricity sales of 5.13 TWh or equivalent to IDR 5.9 trillion.
Then through the captive power acquisition program, PLN has also succeeded in inviting many business and industrial customers to switch from using their own power plants to PLN. This program managed to contribute sales of 2.68 TWh or around Rp. 2.7 trillion.
Even though since 2022 world economic growth is projected to slow down, the Indonesian economy has actually grown by 5.3 percent. Even the electricity consumption of the large industrial segment increased by 24.54 percent and large businesses increased by 22.47 percent. This growth in consumption shows an economic revival in the country, especially in the business and industrial sectors," said Darmawan.
Meanwhile, through an intensification strategy, PLN is here to meet customer needs for increasing electricity consumption. Home charging services are a breakthrough for electric vehicle users.

Meanwhile, the power-added promo program is provided to increase customer productivity. From this strategy, PLN managed to increase sales by 1.31 TWh or equivalent to IDR 2.2 trillion.
Darmawan further said that PLN also carried out operational efficiency by maximizing the utilization of its own generators. This effort allows corporations to save IDR 1.1 trillion from reducing the power plant rental capacity.
Consults together with Independent Power Producers (IPP) to postpone the power plant's Commercial Operation Date (COD) also resulted in efficiency in purchasing electricity reaching IDR 10.1 trillion in 2022.
"At the same time, as a tangible manifestation of the energy transition escort in Indonesia, PLN has succeeded in optimizing electricity production from water-powered power plants by 13.2 TWh from the target of 10.9 TWh," concluded Darmawan.
