Italian Caucasian Woman Deported After Being Released from Bali's Kerobokan Prison

DENPASAR - Denpasar Immigration deported an Italian citizen woman with the initials AS (48) for being involved in the methamphetamine type of narcotics after serving a criminal term and was declared free from the Class II A Women's Prison in Kerobokan, Badung, Bali.

Head of the Denpasar Immigration Detention Center, Babay Baenullah, said the woman born in Naples was deported through I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali Tuesday April 11 at 19.10 WITA with the final destination being Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino International Airport, Rome.

Babay said the Italian citizen was deported after being detained for nearly a month and was coordinating with the family regarding purchasing tickets for her return.

After the administration was declared complete, AS was finally able to be deported according to a predetermined schedule with the tight escort of three Denpasar Detention Center officers until AS entered the plane.

According to Babay's statement, the woman came to Indonesia at the end of February 2020 through the Immigration checkpoint at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport using a visa on arrival with the aim of having a vacation around Indonesia.

However, because the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic hit Indonesia at that time, she also applied for an onshore visa.

On February 19, 2022, AS was arrested by the police at the villa she rented in Bilangan Seminyak, Badung Regency, Bali for possessing and using one gram of crystal methamphetamine.

For her actions, AS was sentenced to two years and four months in prison because she had been legally and convincingly proven to have committed the crime of using class I narcotics not for herself as referred to in Article 127 paragraph (1) letter a of Law no. 35 of 2009.

"AS's prison term ended on March 12, 2023 based on a release letter W20.PAS.3-PK.05.12-350 from the Kerobokan Class IIA Women's Prison and was handed over to the TPI Denpasar Class I Immigration Office", said Babay.

However, because the deportation process could not be carried out immediately, the TPI Denpasar Class I Immigration Office handed over AS to the Denpasar Immigration Detention Center (Rudenim) on the same day to be detected and further deportation attempted.

After almost a month of detention at the Denpasar Immigration Detention Center, she was deported.

Babay said the deportation was in accordance with the laws and regulations in force in Indonesia Article 99 Jo. 102 Paragraph (3) of Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration which reads to foreigners who are deemed to be able to disturb the security and public order of Immigration officials may be subject to lifelong deprivation.

"After we report the deportation, a decision on further deterrence will be decided by the Directorate General of Immigration by looking at and considering all the cases", said Babay.
