BPS: Unemployment In Indonesia Drops To 7.86 Million People Until August 2023

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) announced that until August 2023 the number of unemployed in Indonesia was 7.86 million people, or a decrease of 560,000 people when compared to the same period the previous year.

Plt. Head of BPS, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti said the unemployment rate in Indonesia had decreased compared to the previous year, because the working age population tends to increase as the population in Indonesia increases.

"The Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) in August 2023 there were 7.86 million sufferers or equivalent to the open unemployment rate of 5.32 percent, down by 0.54 percentage points compared to August 2022," Amalia said at a press conference, Monday 6 November.

Amalia explained that the working age population in August 2023 was 212.59 million people, an increase of 3.17 million people compared to August 2022.

Most of the working-age population is a workforce of 147.71 million people and the rest includes non-workforces of 64.88 million people.

The composition of the workforce in August 2023 consisted of 139.85 million people working and 7.86 million unemployed people.

When compared to August 2022, the number of workers increased by 3.99 million people, the working population increased by 4.55 million people, while unemployment decreased by 0.56 million people.
