The Number Of Airplane Passengers At Sepinggan Airport As Of September 2023 Is 3.8 Million People

BALIKPAPAN - Passengers at Sepinggan International Airport in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, until September 2023 recorded 3.8 million people.

"We grew 41 percent for the number of passengers, and 31 percent for aircraft movement," said General Manager (GM) of PT Angkasa Pura I Sepinggan Branch, Ahmad Syaugi Wahab, quoted from ANTARA, Monday, October 9.

Angkasa Pura I is the manager of Sepinggan Airport. The departure and arrival of the aircraft are briefly referred to as aircraft movements.

This growth was calculated by GM Syaugi from the number of passengers in 2022, which was recorded at more than 2.7 million people by the end of the year with 28,460 aircraft movements.

The current surge in traffic is driven by people who are currently starting to resume activities such as business trips or traveling outside the region. Then we believe it is also because starting in early 2023, Sepinggan Airport increased connectivity by opening several new routes, both domestically and internationally," explained GM.

However, the number of passengers in 2023 has not returned as in 2019 or before Balikpapan was also exposed to the COVID-19 outbreak. At that time Sepinggan Airport served 5,429,716 passengers and 59,125 aircraft movements.

Considering that in 2023 there are still approximately 3 months or 100 days left, Syaugi is optimistic that the number of passengers at the end of the year can be close to the number in 2019.

Just like many other airports, Sepinggan Airport will still face a holiday season where people will travel a lot in December.

In October and November there were also many official trips and business trips.

GM Syaugi added other data. The purpose or destination of passengers from Balikpapan is mainly to Jakarta with 1,177,395 passengers, Surabaya with 825,992 passengers, Makassar with 348,989 passengers, Yogyakarta with 281,891 passengers and Tarakan with 203,292 passengers.
