Just Launched, Carbon Exchange Records Trading Volume Of Up To 459,914 Tons Of Carbon Equivalence

JAKARTA - The carbon trade on the Indonesian Carbon Exchange was only announced by President Joko Widodo on Tuesday, September 26.

In its first trade, the IDX noted that there were 13 transactions with a trading volume of 459,914 tons of carbon equivalent (tCO2e).

Meanwhile, the price per unit of carbon was recorded at IDR 69,600.

In this inaugural trading, there is also a registered project that belongs to Pertamina, namely the Lahendong unit 5 project and 6 units of PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGEO) in North Sulawesi.

This trafficked carbon is a 2016-2020 carbon vintage mid-2020.

Meanwhile, at 11.00 WIB, the total trading volume was recorded at 459,495 tCO2e with 16 registered users, and the price per carbon unit was Rp77,000 and the total order was 28.

President Joko Widodo inaugurated the first carbon exchange in Indonesia. This inauguration was held at the Main Hall of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) on Tuesday, September 26.

"By saying Bismilihirohmanirohim, aaya inaugurates the Indonesian carbon market," said Jokowi, Tuesday, September 26.

In his remarks, Jokowi said, Indonesia has the potential of up to 1 million giga tons of carbon dioxide that can be captured and if converted has a potential profit of up to IDR 3,000 trillion.

"The carbon fuel that we launched today can be a concrete step for Indonesia to achieve the NDc target," said Jokowi.
