Regarding Permendag, President Jokowi Affirms TikTok Is Social Media, Not Media Economic Media Media

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated that the impact of the TikTok Shop business has made sales and production within the scope of MSMEs and conventional markets have plummeted.

The President considered that TikTok should only act as social media, not the media economy.

"This should be social media. Not the media economy. That will only be resolved to be regulated," Jokowi explained, quoted on Saturday, September 23.

Jokowi stated that the government through the Ministry of Trade had prepared regulations to control electronic commerce or social media-based e-commerce.

The Head of State explained that the regulations under design will regulate the application's function as social media and trading platforms or economic media.

Currently, the regulation has been prepared by across ministries and is awaiting approval at the Ministry of Trade.

"It is still in a regulatory position at the Ministry of Trade. Others have been completed, staying at the Ministry of Trade. We are waiting," said the President.

Previously, the existence of TikTok Shop itself would later be regulated in the revision of the Permendag. The reason is that TikTok has not yet obtained a PMSE permit from the Ministry of Trade.

So far, TikTok has only obtained permission for electronic system (PSE) operators from the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.

Jokowi is said to have approved the Revision of the Permendag 50 and is now just waiting for the token from the Minister of Trade.

The existence of TikTok Shop itself will later be regulated in the revision of the Permendag. The reason is that TikTok has not yet obtained a PMSE permit from the Ministry of Trade.
