JAKARTA - The demand for roof solar power plant (PLTS) is currently said to be increasing quite rapidly, especially for the commercial and industrial sectors.

Managing Director of Xurya, one of the companies engaged in new and renewable energy, Eka Himawan, said that the increase in the demand for roof PLTS was not only influenced by environmental factors, but also from economic value.

"By using roof PLTS, the company can save the company's total electricity bill," he said, quoted from Antara, Saturday, September 16.

In addition, rooftop PLTS can also be the right solution for companies that want to start implementing sustainability policies.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) noted that until July 2023, the use of roof PLTS in Indonesia increased significantly by 26 percent, from the number of subscribers of 5,926 in July 2022 to 7,472 customers as of July 2023.

The increasingly strong market demands for the use of green products, according to Eka, encourage the commercial and industrial sectors to start switching to using renewable energy, one of which is roofing PLTS.

"In the future, we hope that collaboration between parties can be maintained so that the energy transition agenda can be realized in the near future," he said while commemorating the declaration of the 6th National Solar Roof Movement (GNSSA) in Surabaya, East Java, on September 15, 2023.

GNSSA is a movement declared September 13, 2017 by two ministries, various renewable energy associations, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), and the Institute of Essential Services Reform (IESR).

The movement aims to support the National Energy Policy, which is to achieve 23 percent of the use of new and renewable energy (EBT) by encouraging and accelerating the construction of roof solar power plants in housing, public facilities, office buildings and government, commercial buildings, and industrial complexes.

Since it was declared until now, more than 50 business entities in Indonesia have supported the movement.

Meanwhile, Director of PT Samator Indo Gas Tbk Imelda M Harsono stated that the use of renewable energy helps companies to reduce carbon emissions and contribute to protecting the environment.

According to him, the presence of the roof PLTS is a concrete and positive step in realizing the commitment to make the company sustainable.

"We hope that many industry players will be inspired and start using rooftop PLTS as an energy source for the company's operations," he said.
