Association Of E-Commerce Is Worried That The Prohibition Of Imported Products Is Below IDR 1.5 Million Disrupts Demand And Offerings

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian E-commerce Association (idEA) Bima Laga said that the proposed ban on the sale of imported products under 100 US dollars or around Rp. 1.5 million on the online e-commerce platform and social commerce in the revision of Permendag No. 50/2020 is feared to disrupt offers and requests.

"If (the proposal) interferes with supply and demand, it will be the customer impact," Bima told reporters in the Kebayoran Baru area, South Jakarta, Friday, September 8.

On the other hand, Bima is worried that the proposal will cause MSMEs to become paralyzed.

This is because many of the necessary products or necessities cannot be obtained because they are not yet available in Indonesia.

"However, don't let this rule come out after this rule is issued and maybe within the specified period, for example, there should be no items that cannot be found that are not yet in the country," he said.

Previously reported, the Minister of Trade (Mendag) Zulkifli Hasan confirmed the plan to prohibit the sale of imported goods at a price below 100 US dollars or equivalent to Rp. 1.5 million (assuming an exchange rate of Rp. 15,000 per dollar) on digital shopping platforms (e-commerce) or online.

"The goods sold also have a minimum price, not all (can be sold). During soy sauce, you have to import, MSMEs can make chili sauce. So I propose, the price (at least) is 100 US dollars," he said when met at Hotel Four Season, Friday, July 28.

Zulhas, Zulkifli Hasan's nickname, explained that the proposed ban on the sale of imported products at a minimum price of 100 US dollars will be regulated in the revision of the Minister of Trade Regulation (Permendag) Number 50 of 2020 concerning Licensing Usah, Advertising, Guidance, and Supervision of Business Actors in Electronic Trade (PPMSE).

Furthermore, he said, the revision of the Permendag 50 of 2020 is currently still in the process of harmonization between ministries.
