Jokowi Sets Target For Unemployment Rate To Drop To 5.7 Percent At The End Of Term

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) targets the open unemployment rate to be reduced to 5.7 percent in 2024. Next year is the last year of his term as head of state.

The open unemployment rate in 2024 is expected to be reduced in the range of 5.0 percent to 5.7 percent, the poverty rate in the range of 6.5 percent to 7.5 percent, the ratio in the range of 0.374 to 0.377. Jokowi said, this open unemployment rate can be suppressed in line with strong fiscal management, accompanied by effectiveness in encouraging economic transformation and improving people's welfare.

Therefore, Jokowi wants state revenues by 2024 to be encouraged more optimally while maintaining the investment climate, business world sustainability, and environmental sustainability.

On this occasion, Jokowi said that during his leadership, the unemployment and poverty levels in Indonesia had decreased.

In February 2023, Jokowi said, the unemployment rate had fallen to 5.45 percent, from 6.26 percent in 2021.

Then, continued Jokowi, the poverty rate also fell to 9.36 percent in March 2023, from its peak to 10.19 percent in September 2021.

"Likewise, extreme poverty fell from 2.04 percent in March 2022 to 1.12 percent in March 2023," said Jokowi.
