JAKARTA - The Director General of Taxes at the Indonesian Ministry of Finance, Suryo Utomo, said that the development of the integration of the Population Identification Number (NIK) and Taxpayer Identification Number (NPWP) was 82 percent marketed.

"That the integration between NIK and NPWP is already in the 82 percent confirmed position, indeed there are some that are still not. And we are still doing matching between NIK and NPWP," Suryo said at the KiTa State Budget press conference which was monitored online in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, July 25.

Suryo said that currently his party is still conducting socialization to the public regarding the integration policy. He hopes that the integration of NIK and NPWP can be implemented thoroughly in early 2024.

"Hopefully by the end of this year, NIK, NPWP will be established so that we can use it during the implementation of the coretax in the future. In addition, we also open the expansion of services, assistance, matching by our friends throughout Indonesia to make it easier to do matching," said Suryo.

He added that currently the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) is in the process of matching interdatabase data with the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration so that any data and information can be properly matched.

Meanwhile, the NIK and NPWP integration policies have been listed in Law Number 7 of 2021 concerning Harmonization of Tax Regulations (HPP). The plan is that the policy will be fully implemented on January 1, 2024. The DGT noted that 57.87 million NIKs have been validated to NPWP as of July 11, 2023.

The purpose of the integration policy is to improve services to taxpayers and make it easier for taxpayers to administer taxation by using a single identity. This makes it easier because taxpayers no longer need to memorize two numbers at once, but only use a NIK that may be commonly used by the public.

Based on the Regulation of the Minister of Finance (PMK) Number 112/PMK.03/2022, there are three new NPWP formats used. First, taxpayers of individuals who are residents will use a NIK later.

Second, for taxpayers who are not residents, corporate taxpayers, and taxpayers, government agencies use NPWP with a format of 16 digits. Third, branch taxpayers will be given an Identity Number for Business Activities (NITKU).

The implementation of the use of the new format has begun on July 14, 2022. Until December 32, 2023, NIK and NPWP with a 16 digit format are still limited to tax administration services.
