JAKARTA - The Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI) is coordinating with a number of parties to launch a subsidized housing program for Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) this year.

Head of BP2MI Benny Rhamdani said the subsidized housing program for PMI would involve the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR).

"With the president's permission, BP2MI will launch a Subsidized Cheap Housing program for PMIs," Benny told reporters, Monday, June 19.

Benny said this was done as a form of government appreciation to PMI, which had contributed foreign exchange of up to IDR 159.6 trillion annually.

"Why was it done? This country owes it to them (PMI). I have explained that the second largest foreign exchange contribution to the country comes from PMI," he said.

That way, said Benny, his party will also ensure that no PMI will feel insulted in the future.

"At the age of my limited leadership, (I emphasize) there should no longer be the slightest insult committed by anyone to PMI," he added.
