JAKARTA - At the 2023 Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation SME Working Group (APEC SME WG) meeting in Hong Kong, the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs stated that Indonesia was compiling and preparing single SME data through data collection methods and data indicators that had been coordinated and implemented together with the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and the One Data Forum.

"In the future, Indonesia will have a single SME data system called the Single Data Information System (SIDT)," said Expert Staff of the Minister for Inter-Institutional Relations of the Ministry of Cooperatives and the Head of Delegation of Indonesia in APEC SME WG 2023 Luhur Pradjarto in a written statement, quoted Tuesday, May 9.

At the APEC SME WG meeting which is routinely held every year, KemenKopUKM, which is Indonesia's vocal point, discussed a number of main agendas, such as reports from APEC Secretariat regarding the development of the MSME development support program in APEC member countries, development of APEC-funded projects, preparation for the Ministerial Meeting, exchange of information related to the best practices of the SME development program, and sharing sessions of the MSME landscape.

According to Luhur, single data is crucial considering that currently there are 28 ministries/agencies in Indonesia that have SME development programs with data and SME data indicators that have not been standardized.

Furthermore, said Luhur, the data collection of SMEs in the development of the SME Single Data System in Indonesia is proof that the Indonesian government is trying to continue to improve the quality of SME development policy services, so that they become more measurable and on target.

On the other hand, APEC WG this year has brought up many of the best practices from APEC member countries that have various programs to approach the development of SMEs, including reviewing digitalization, informal transformation to formal, financing, women's role and the use of technology, one of which is from the host, Hong Kong, which is very focused on supporting SME funding in terms of innovation, incubation and commercialization research.

The next 56th APEC SME WG meeting will be held in August 2023 in Seattle, United States. The activity coincided with a meeting between APEC member countries (Ministerial Meeting).

According to the plan, the United States will carry the theme Women's Economic Empowerment. During the meeting, a notification will also be delivered as well as the handover of the host of the next APEC SME WG meeting, which in line with Indonesia will host the 57th APEC SME WG meeting in 2024.
