MAKI Encourages KPK To Accelerate Investigation Of Wamenkumham Corruption Allegations

JAKARTA - Coordinator of the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) Boyamin Saiman asked the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to accelerate the process of handling cases of alleged corruption reported by IPW Chairman Sugeng Teguh Santoso with reported Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights Edward Oemar Sharif Hiariej (Eddy Hiariej).

The alleged corruption was related to the extortion of Helmut Hermawan related to the dispute over shares and management at PT Citra Lampian Mandiri (CLM).

The case began when the Director of PT CLM, Helmut Hermawan (HH) asked Eddy for legal consultation regarding his company dispute. However, the Wamenkumham team is suspected of setting a tariff of IDR 7 billion.

"KPK must carry out a fast process to carry out investigations if there is sufficient evidence and elements, and immediately brought to court," Boyamin told reporters, Sunday, May 7.

Boyamin also mentioned that the Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights Eddy Hiariej, Yogi Arie Rukmana, reported Sugeng Teguh to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police regarding allegations of defamation.

According to him, Bareskrim Polri could not process the report on the alleged defamation before the report on the alleged corruption at the KPK was reported. Moreover, he said, when Bambang Hendarso Danuri served as Kabareskrim Polri had written a letter that the complainant of a corruption case should not be processed for defamation until the corruption case was completely complete.

"So if it's going on, it can't be processed, so it's an effort by Mr. Bambang Hendarso Danuri, who later became the National Police Chief, to provide a sense of security to the corruption reporter," he said.

Boyamin said that from the past until now the average reporting of alleged corruption cases was still trying to weaken with the term defamation. However, according to him, the letter has never been revoked until now, so it is still valid.

So according to him, the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police, Komjen Agus Andrianto, cannot process reports of alleged defamation with the reported chairman of IPW Sugeng Teguh Santoso.

"So I think Mr. Bambang Hendarso Danuri's letter has never been revoked until now, so the engine is still valid. This means that Kabareskrim cannot carry out any legal proceedings against reports of alleged defamation related to the Chairman of IPW Pak Sugeng Teguh," he continued.

Moreover, he said, if it is true that the KPK has carried out an investigation, it must wait until the investigation is completely completed, whether there is sufficient evidence and continues or is closed because there is not enough evidence.

"Well, but if the investigation is increased, then the defamation report has died, meaning that the alleged crime related to extortion means there is sufficient evidence and fulfills the elements," he said.

Previously, the Anti-Corruption and Anti-Criminalization Coalition Team visited the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) building to ask for an explanation regarding the legal process for reports of alleged corruption by Eddy Hiariej.

Spokesperson for the Coalition Team, Deolipa Yumara said that the report submitted by the Chairman of Indonesia Police Watch (IPW), Sugeng Teguh Santoso has entered the investigation stage.

"So the case has entered the investigation stage. Soon the investigation will take place," Deolipa told reporters, Friday, May 5.

His party also paid attention to the existence of the report, so that it could be handled quickly by the KPK.

"Sometimes the KPK investigators work for a long time, we ask for it to be accelerated and they have this attention so that it can be accelerated," he said.

Meanwhile, Deolipa said that the KPK was obliged to protect the reporter, namely Sugeng Teguh, both from physical attacks and legal attacks at Bareskrim Polri related to cases of alleged defamation.

"Well, it has also been conveyed from the KPK, they are also in the same context to protect the reporter, namely Pak Sugeng Teguh Santoso in accordance with Article 15 of Law Number 19 of 2019," he said.

Previously, Sugeng had reported the alleged corruption of Wamenkumham Eddy Hiariej to the KPK's Red and White Building, Jakarta on Tuesday, March 14, 2023.
