The Directorate General of Highways of the Ministry of PUPR rehabilitated a number of roads and bridges in Central Sulawesi (Central Sulawesi) affected by the earthquake and tsunami in 2018.

Head of the Central Sulawesi National Road Implementation Center (BPJN) Arief Syarif Hidayat said, there are 12 roads and bridges that are being rehabilitated and reconstructed in Central Sulawesi.

"His work is carried out in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) through the Infrastructure Reconstruction Sector Loan (IRSL) scheme," he said in a written statement, quoted Monday, April 17.

The twelve packages of road and bridge work include the replacement of the Palu Bridge 4 (250 m), the replacement and rehabilitation of the Central Sulawesi Provincial Bridge (52.9 m), the construction of the Tondo-Tallise Huntap Bridge, the reconstruction of the Kalawara-Kulawi and Sirenja Roads (18.5 km), the rehabilitation of the Interior Road of Palu City and the reconstruction of the Rajamoili-Cut Mutia Road embankment (14.09 km), as well as the reconstruction and handling of the Cumi-Cumi Road embankment (2.4 km).

Then, the construction of the Lake Lindu Access Road (17.8 km), the reconstruction of the Palu City Inner Ring Road 1 (28.39 km), the reconstruction of the Palu City Inner Ring Road 2 (13.21 km), the handling of the slopes of the Tambu-Tompe-Pantoloan (1.6 km) section, and the rehabilitation of the 2 Cs Central Sulawesi Bridge (255 m).

"As for the work package that has been completed 100 percent, namely the construction of the Tondo-Talise Huntap Bridge and the rehabilitation of the 2 Cs Central Sulawesi Bridge," said Arief.

Arief said that the reconstruction of the embankment of Jalan Rajamoili-Cut Mutia and Jalan Cumi-cumi was a treatment aimed at fortifying Palu City from the tsunami wave. "So, between the Palu 4 Bridge on the left side is Jalan Cumi-Cumi and the right is Cut Mutia Street. These two roads are designed with a height of about six meters to secure Palu City," he said.

For increased connectivity, Arief continued, the reconstruction of the Palu 1 Inner Ring Road and the Palu 2 City Inner Ring Road was designed in such a way as to connect Palu City and Sigli City.

"Meanwhile, on the Tambu-Tompe-Pantoloan section, we focus on handling the slopes because this section always landslides every time it rains, thus hampering the accessibility of Palu City and Tolitoli Regency," he said.

Meanwhile, Senior Representative JICA Indonesia Office Okamura Kenji appreciated the progress of rehabilitation and infrastructure reconstruction in Central Sulawesi by the Ministry of PUPR which he considered to be going well.

He reminded supervisors and construction workers to always prioritize security factors at work.

"I hope that all work can be completed according to the target that has been determined without any work accidents that can injure construction workers or the community," he added.
