JAKARTA - Google is again bringing a new feature to its digital wallet, Wallet. Now, the application focuses more on users' daily needs.

Three new features launched, one of the most important is user identity card (ID) storage. They can save ID or driving license (SIM) on any phone that runs Android 8.0 or later.

For safety, users can activate it with their device key. This feature was first launched for the state of Maryland, United States (US).

Google stated that in the coming months, residents of Arizona, Colorado, and Georgia can also try out the feature. The ID-to- Wallet storage feature can be used on the TSA PreCheck route at certain airports.

"By the end of this year, we will be rolling out more ways to use your ID on Wallet, such as when ordering a car with Turo or verifying your online account," Google said in its official blog, quoted Monday, June 5.

Wallet can also be used to store train tickets. Where users using the Google Messages app with Rich Communication Services (RCS) are enabled will be able to complete their travel check-in process completely in the Messages app.

They will receive a boarding pass or direct train ticket on the Messages app and from there, users can save it to their Wallet.

"We will start rolling out this with Vietnam Airlines and Renfe, the leading rail operator in Spain," Google said.

Similarly, restaurants can also use reservation systems such as TagMe to send reservation details to their customers that can be saved to Wallet for use in the future.

Even though Google Wallet already supports various types of passes, there are passes that can not always be saved easily to devices such as gym membership cards, Google says now users can save them in the digital wallet.

This storage feature will work for all passes containing a barcode or QR code, and is also useful for passes such as transit QR tickets, parking tickets, or e-commerce return QR codes.

Furthermore, Google revealed that they are currently working with the US health insurance company Humana to develop a digital version of the insurance card.

Because it contains sensitive information, this type of pass requires card owners to verify themselves before adding or using data.

Users can use biometrics, PIN, or other methods. For users in the UK, users can save their National Insurance Number to Wallet via the HMRC application.

Later this year, the tech giant will also introduce support for the company's badge that will give employees access to the building they work for.

Currently, Google Wallet is available in more than 20 additional markets, with a total of 60 countries globally. The company promises to bring apps to more countries to come in the next few weeks.
