JAKARTA - The honorary President of Bayern Munich, Uli Hoeness, is confident that his club can bring in Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur.
Kane has indeed been hunted by Bayern in the transfer market this summer. However, Bayern is not the only one. There is also Paris Saint-Germain who is interested in the England striker.
Despite the intense competition from the French Ligue 1 giants, Bayern did not give up. Hoeness believes the player will prefer to join the Bundesliga team.
"Kane has clearly signaled in all conversations that his decision (to join Bayern this summer) has been taken and if he holds his word, then we will get it because Tottenham must give in," Hoeness told reporters, quoted by AFP via Antara.
"Kane wants to play in international competitions and Tottenham are not eligible next season for Europe unlike our club," Hoeness continued.
Bayern himself is reported to have reached a verbal agreement with Kane. Unfortunately, the Spurs rejected the initial offer of 70 million euros (around Rp1.17 trillion).
Tottenham are asking for at least 100 million euros (Rp1.67 trillion) if they want to release the England forward, which has been included in the London club squad for their pre-season Asia-Pacific tour.
Kane's contract expires at the end of 2024 alongside Tottenham and the English club not wanting to lose the player for free.
Hoeness admitted that it was not easy to negotiate with Spurs president Daniel Levy. He called Levy a smart negotiator.
"He's trying to buy time, he's an experienced professional, I really appreciate it. But, on the other hand, we weren't a club yesterday afternoon," Hoeness said.
