JAKARTA - Carlos Alcaraz started Wimbledon 2023 with extraordinary confidence. He beat veteran tennis player from France, Jeremy Chardy 6-0, 6-2, 7-5, Wednesday, July 5, Western Indonesian Time (WIB).

After the victory, the world number one immediately gave a warning to Novak Djokovic. Alcaraz emphasized that he would not give up under pressure if he met his rival in the Wimbledon final.

Alcaraz, who already has five titles this season, is in fine form after winning his maiden grasscourt trophy at Queen's Club last month.

However, Djokovic is still the man to beat as the Serb is also chasing an eighth Wimbledon title.

US Open champion Alcaraz is favored to meet world number two Djokovic in the All England Club final.

The match will be a repeat of last month's French Open semifinals which Djokovic won 6-3, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 after Alcaraz suffered cramps in the last two sets.

Alcaraz believes the incident caused by the tension will not happen again if they meet in the Wimbledon final.

"The main reason I had cramps was the tension I went through against Novak in the Grand Slam semi-finals. I believe the experience was a very important part of that," Alcaraz said, quoted by AFP via Antara.

"I learned a lot from that match for the next meeting against Novak. The conditions will be different. I will deal with the pressure better than I did at the French Open."

"I can't play with that tension. Like I said, it will be different next time."

As a top contender for the title, Alcaraz acknowledged he and Djokovic will closely follow each other's progress at the tournament.

"I watched the game, that's clear, but not the whole match. I think he did the same as me," Alcaraz said.

"To win the tournament. That's my main goal right now. I'm very confident."

In the second round, Alcaraz will face the winner of the match between fellow Frenchmen Alexandre Muller and Arthur Rinderknech.
