FIFA Officially Revokes Peru's Status as Host of the 2023 U-17 World Cup, Opportunity for Indonesia?

JAKARTA - The International Football Federation (FIFA) has officially canceled the 2023 U-17 World Cup in Peru. This is a golden opportunity for Indonesia.

FIFA's cancellation of hosting the U-17 World Cup was taken after lengthy discussions with the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF), on Monday evening local time.

The reason for Peru's cancellation of holding the event was said to be the host's inability to fulfill its commitments due to infrastructure problems required to be able to organize the tournament.

In its official statement, FIFA said, although Peru has failed to become the host, the tournament schedule has not changed. The U-17 World Cup will take place from 10 November to 2 December.

FIFA is now looking for a new host. Previously, news circulated that Indonesia would be appointed as the host of the U-17 World Cup.

Indonesia itself has actually been appointed as the host of the 2023 U-20 World Cup. However, due to domestic turmoil, FIFA decided to revoke Indonesia's host status.

FIFA took the decision without accompanying clear reasons. FIFA only said that the decision was taken after seeing the current situation.

Previously the U-20 World Cup caused chaos in Indonesia, after a number of elements of society and the Governor of Bali I Wayan Koster and the Governor of Central Java Ganjar Pranowo expressed their objections to the arrival of one of the participating teams, namely Israel.

Israel itself has the right to take part in the U-20 World Cup because of its runner-up status at the 2022 U-19 European Cup. Meanwhile, in the U-17 World Cup, the Israeli team did not participate so there would be no problem for Indonesia if it later became the host.
