Due To Cruise Control System, BMW Recalls More Than 11 Thousand SUV IX Units

JAKARTA - BMW launched their latest SUV, iX, which offers the latest technology and features to meet the mobility needs of its users. However, the use of these advanced features sometimes suffers from errors.

Several BMW iX drivers reported that they accidentally activated the "Cruise Control" feature while driving the car at low speed. This causes the car manufacturer to make a recall of the electric SUV.

According to a report from Carscoops on Wednesday, June 14, this problem first occurred at the end of 2022, when manufacturers received complaints about acceleration that did not match the wishes of car owners. Although in that case the manufacturer said the matter was not related to Cruise Control, in other cases it was found that the system was active.

BMW has finally identified that when iX is driven at low speed and there is a high steering angle, the driver's hand can accidentally touch the Cruise Control button.

In iX interior, the function controller button is located on the left side of the steering wheel, while the physical button to adjust the speed is mounted on the steering wheel. The Cruise Control button is located on top of it.

BMW discovered that problems could occur when the driver had set Cruise Control, then turned it off, and then accidentally reactivated it.

However, drivers can actually turn off Cruise Control by pressing the cancel button or brake pedal. Fortunately, BMW did not record any reports of accidents or injuries due to this problem.

To prevent this incident from happening again, the German manufacturer decided to make a recall of 11,180 units of iX xDrive50s and iX M60s produced from 2022 to 2024.

BMW will address this issue via software updates. The manufacturer will contact the vehicle owner on July 28, and the dealers will install a software update when the latest version is available. No fees are charged for this software update.
