JAKARTA - After Afghanistan was controlled by the Taliban, the wave of refugees increased to leave the country. The United States is rushing to get as many people out of Afghanistan as possible and as soon as possible before the August 31 deadline ends, amid deteriorating security.
The United States and its partner countries have evacuated about 111,000 people since August 14, one day before the Taliban took control of Kabul, the White House said on Friday, Aug. 27.

United States of America
The US military, if needed, will continue to fly people from Kabul airport until August 31, said the Pentagon, the headquarters of the US Department of Defense.
However, the Pentagon said, the US military in the last days would prioritize the withdrawal of troops and military equipment.
Meanwhile, the White House said that the government since August 14 has evacuated 5,100 US citizens.
In Afghanistan, there are still about 1,500 US citizens. Washington is either trying to contact them or has given them instructions on how they can get to Kabul airport.
Canada
Canadian troops in Kabul on Thursday, August 26 have ended efforts to remove both its nationals and Afghan nationals from the country, the acting chief of staff said.

Eyre said Canada had evacuated or assisted in the evacuation of some 3,700 Canadians and Afghans.
United Kingdom
British troops have entered the final stages of evacuating people from Kabul and have closed evacuation facilities, the UK Ministry of Defence said on Friday 28 August.
Efforts are now focused on evacuating British and other nationals who have been granted permission to leave Afghanistan and are already at the airport, the ministry said.
The defense ministry said no more people would be called to the airport to be flown.
The UK has evacuated more than 13,7000 British nationals as well as Afghans.
The number is the second largest in a transport operation by the British Air Force since the Berlin Flight in 1949, the ministry said.
German
Germany has suspended evacuation flights since Thursday 27 August. The German military has flown 5,347 people, including more than 4,100 Afghans.
Germany earlier said it had identified 10,000 people who needed to be brought out of Afghanistan, including the country's local staff, as well as journalists and human rights activists.
About 300 German nationals are still in Afghanistan, a spokesman for the German Foreign Ministry said Friday, August 28.
French
The French Ministry of Defense said that, as of the evening of Thursday 27 August, more than 100 French nationals and at least 2,500 Afghan nationals had arrived on French territory after being flown from Kabul.
Italy
Italy said it had taken 4,832 Afghans out of their country as of August 26. The Italian government estimates that the last plane for evacuation will leave Afghanistan on the evening of Friday 28 August, Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio told reporters.
Sweden
Sweden has suspended evacuation missions in Kabul, Foreign Minister Ann Linde said Friday, Aug. 28. He said a total of 1,100 people had been flown out of Afghanistan, including local embassy staff and their families.

Denmark
Denmark flew its last plane from Kabul on Wednesday, August 25 with the remaining diplomatic staff and military personnel, according to the defense ministry.
Austria
Austria currently does not operate its own flights and relies on Germany and other countries to assist with evacuations.
Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg told broadcaster ORF on Wednesday 25 August that 89 Austrian nationals or residents had been taken out of Afghanistan.
Dozens of Austrians are still in Afghanistan.
Switzerland
Switzerland, which is relying on German and US assistance to carry out evacuations through Tashkent, has brought 292 people out of Afghanistan, Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis said Tuesday.
There are still 15 Swiss nationals registered in Afghanistan, but Switzerland is not planning to fly again.
Dutch
The Dutch government on Thursday, August 26 said it had evacuated 2,500 people from Afghanistan since August 15. A total of 1,600 of these people were flown to the Netherlands.
The Dutch ambassador had left Afghanistan on the last flight on Thursday. No diplomatic staff still resides in the country.
Spanish
Spain has ended the evacuation of personnel from Afghanistan, the government said. Two military planes, carrying 81 Spaniards out of Kabul, arrived in Dubai in the early hours of Friday 27 August, a government statement said.
The planes were also carrying four Portuguese soldiers as well as 83 Afghans who had worked for North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) countries.
During the rescue mission, Spain evacuated 1,898 Afghans who had worked for Western countries, the United Nations, or the European Union.
Turkey
Turkey has flown at least 1,400 people from Afghanistan, including about 1,000 Turkish nationals, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said this week.
Qatar
Qatar on Thursday 25 August said it had helped evacuate more than 40,000 people to Doha. Qatar also mentioned that "evacuation efforts will continue in the coming days after consultation with international partners".
United Arab Emirates
The United Arab Emirates (UAE), Thursday, August 25, said it had helped 36,500 people get out of Afghanistan, including 8,500 people who entered the UAE on national airlines or through the country's airports.
India
India has flown 565 people from Afghanistan. Most of them are Indian personnel and nationals living in the country, as well as dozens of Afghans -- including Sikhs and Hindus, the government said.
Australia
Prime Minister Scott Morrison said on Friday 27 August that Australia had evacuated 4,100 people, including more than 3,200 Australian citizens as well as Afghan citizens holding Australian visas.
In addition, the evacuation included residents of a number of coalition partners. The evacuation of thousands of people lasted for nine days. The last plane left the country before the attack on the airport took place.
