The East Nusa Tenggara Provincial Government optimizes the use of water resources in three dams that are included in national strategic projects to anticipate a water crisis and support agricultural businesses during the dry season.
"The threat of climate anomalies with the El Nino phenomenon if it is not handled seriously then it can have an impact on food hazards because it is related to air, water and land physical conditions so that the NTT Government optimizes the use of water in existing dams for agricultural business needs during the dry season," said Head of the East Nusa Tenggara Provincial Agriculture and Food Security Service, Lecky Frederich Koli in Kupang, as reported by ANTARA, Monday, July 31.
He said there were three dams that President Joko Widodo had inaugurated as a source of water to support agricultural businesses during the dry season in NTT, namely the Rotiklot Dam in Belu Regency which has a capacity of 3.3 million m3, the Raknamo Dam in Kupang Regency with a capacity of 16.1 million m3, and the Napun Ngete Dam in Sikka Regency with a capacity of 11.22 million cubic meters with an inundation of 99.78 hectares.
He conveyed that the water contained in the three dams could be used to optimize agricultural land around the area during the dry season.

"The existing water potential can fill agricultural business production in the dry season so that agricultural business activities carried out by farmers continue to produce," said Lecky.
The NTT Provincial Government has also prepared agricultural tools to accelerate the harvest process in the first harvest season, which usually takes one month to become faster, so that farmers can also prepare the land for the second planting by utilizing the available water.
"These steps were taken by the NTT Government in anticipating food shortages due to the impact of El Nino in NTT," said Lecky.
According to Lecky, during this dry season farmers besides planting rice also plant more crops that don't really need a lot of water.
