The Magetan Resort Police (Polres), East Java, confirmed that the use of airsoft guns by someone is regulated by the provisions stipulated for security, namely Police Regulation Number 5 of 2018.

"The use of airsoft guns is regulated in the National Police Regulation Number 5 of 2018 concerning the Supervision and Control of Airsoft Gun-type weapons and also 'Paintball'," said Head of Public Relations of the Magetan Police AKP Budi Kuncahyo, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, July 31.

He expressed this in order to follow up on photos of the students of the Baitul Qur'an Al-Jahra Islamic Boarding School in Magetan who held long-barreled airsoft guns and went viral on social media.

"There are certain rules for someone when using a weapon even though it's an airsoft gun. In Perpol Number 5 it is stated that the age limit for gun holders must be at least 17 years old and a maximum of 65 years old," he said.

Meanwhile, what was done by the santriwati of the Baitul Qur'an Al-Jahra Islamic Boarding School was still not even 17 years old. So they have the potential to violate the requirements of the Police Regulation.

"Although the female students at the Al-Jahra Islamic Boarding School yesterday were only props in the activities of the extracurricular exhibition of the School Environment (MPLS) are in grades 7 and 10 but they are not even 17 years old. So it's still not time to use an airsoft gun," he said.

The Magetan Police Team has visited the management of the boarding school concerned about the viral photo and confirmed it.

His party has also provided an understanding of the existence of the Perpol which regulates the use of the airsoft gun and the results are quite understandable by the boarding school.

According to the Daily Chairperson of the Nur Rosyidah Foundation, which oversees the Islamic boarding school, Isgianto, has clarified the circulation of the photo.

His party gave an explanation that the photo was taken in the extracurricular simulation activities they will open. Isgianto apologized because the photo was considered disturbing to the public.

Therefore, the management decided to cancel the extracurricular activity at the Baitul Qur'an Al Jahra Magetan Islamic Boarding School.

Previously, a photo of the female students holding long-barreled weapons went viral on social media uploaded by the Instagram account @islah_bahrawi on Friday (28/7).

As of Sunday (30/7), the photo has received more than 9 thousand likes and more than a thousand comments until it finally became a public discussion and authorities took care of it.
